PE imports into Ukraine grew by 41% in January - April 2016

(MRC) - Imports of polyethylene (PE) into Ukraine increased to 87,500 tonnes in the first four months of 2016, up 41% compared to the same period of 2015. The greatest increase in supply occurred for high density polyethylene (HDPE), according to MRC DataScope.

Supply of polyethylene into Ukraine continues to significantly exceed its actual consumption. April PE imports into Ukraine rose to 24,800 tonnes, compared with 23,800 tonnes in March; the main increase occurred for the supply of HDPE. Total PE imports into the country grew to 87,500 tonnes in January - April 2016, compared with 62,100 tonnes year on year.

Structure of PE imports over the reported period was as follows.

April imports of HDPE into the country increased to 13,300 tonnes, compared with 11,000 tonnes in March. Imports of injection moulding and blow moulding HDPE increased greatly. In general, HDPE imports in the country exceeded 43,200 tonnes in January - April of this year, compared with 26,800 tonnes in the same time a year earlier.

April imports of low density polyethylene (LDPE) into Ukraine decreased to 5,000 tonnes in April because of the limited export quotas from Russian and Belarusian producers compared with 7,000 tonnes in March. Total LDPE imports into Ukraine were 22,800 tonnes in the first four months of the year, up 17% year on year.

April imports of linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) into the country grew to about 5,600 tonnes, compared with 4,900 tonnes in March. In general, January - April LLDPE imports into Ukraine increased to 18,400 tonnes compared with 13,200 tonnes year on year.

Import other types of polyethylene, including EVA, slightly exceeded 3,00 tonnes in January-April 2016compareded with 2,700 tonnes year on year.
